French as a Foreign Language

Inal’FLE offers a range of French as a Foreign Language courses ranging from level A1 to C1 to all non-French-speaking students who study at the institution. Whether they are enrolled in a degree-awarding course or not, all international students at Inalco can enrol in French courses, for one or two semesters.

Inal'FLE is also open to students seeking asylum or refugees enrolled in the DU Passerelle, as well as to teaching and administrative staff from Inalco seeking to improve their level of French language proficiency.
 

Public

Inal’FLE courses are available to the following students:
  • Exchange students from a partner university enrolled at Inalco
  • Students enrolled in DU Passerelle at Inalco
  • Non-French-speaking free movers enrolled at Inalco - that is international students who come to Inalco on their own initiative, and not as part of an exchange program
  • Non-French-speaking teaching or administrative staff from Inalco (subject to availability)
  • External candidates who are not enrolled at Inalco (subject to availability)

  • Speaking French: all levels from A1 to C1
  • Grammar: all levels from A1 to B2
  • Phonetic: all levels from A1 to B2
  • Welcome to Inal'FLE: all levels from A1 to B1
  • French language and society: level A2
  • News and media: level B1
  • French culture: level B2 and C1
  • French literature: level B2 and C1
  • Academic French (written): level C1

Enrolment procedure

For the first September of the 2023-2024 academic year, admissions to the Inal'FLE programme are open to external candidates for levels A1 and C1 of the CEFR. The other levels are closed to external applicants this semester, as the courses are fully booked.

Applicants should complete the online form available on this page before Sunday, September 3, 2023.
On September 4, you will receive an e-mail containing the link to an online placement test which you must take by Sunday, September 10. The aim of this test is to ensure that the courses we offer are suited to your level of French. You will receive your admission results in the week of September 11 and, in case of admission, courses will start on September 18, 2023.

Tuition fees per semester

Inal'FLE registration allows you to take up to 4 lessons, for up to 30 ECTS per semester. The following tuition fees apply:

750€/semester for:
  • Free movers (that is international students who come to Inalco on their own initiative, and not as part of an exchange program)
  • External candidates who are not enrolled at Inalco

The following students are exempt from the tuition fee:
  • Exchange students from a partner university enrolled at Inalco
  • Students enrolled in DU Passerelle at Inalco
  • Students in exile: refugees, stateless persons or beneficiaries of subsidiary/temporary protection
  • Non-French-speaking teaching or administrative staff from Inalco
