Teaching

Attached to the Chinese Studies department, the candidate must be able to provide high-quality teaching on modern Chinese grammar at all levels of the Chinese LLCER degree, as well as general Chinese linguistics courses at L3 level. Depending on his/her area of specialization, he/she will be required to offer linguistics seminars at various levels of the Chinese Studies, MEEF and/or Language Science masters programs, and to provide preparation sessions for the linguistics test of the Chinese agrégation. Her ability to supervise young researchers, from research masters to doctorates, is particularly important for the department. An excellent knowledge of spoken and written Chinese is a prerequisite: the professor recruited should be prepared to take part in language courses and in the development of the department's teaching materials. He/she will be actively involved in management and supervisory tasks both inside and outside Inalco's Chinese Studies Department.

In Licence (L2-L3), the candidate will give language and grammar courses, as well as an introduction to linguistics. At Master's level (M1-M2), he/she will be in charge of language courses and the teaching of Chinese morphology and lexical semantics, as well as taking part in the preparation of the linguistics test for the agrégation in Chinese as part of continuing education.

The candidate will also be expected to contribute to the development of teaching tools, including digital ones. Competence in ICTE is desirable.

He/she will be able, depending on his/her specialist discipline, to provide part of his/her service in cross-disciplinary teaching in the department (literature, linguistics, humanities) or in cross-disciplinary teaching at INALCO's bachelor's and master's levels.

He/she will be likely to provide teaching in English.

The candidate will be expected to be involved in the life and operation of the department, reflection on the evolution of training, as well as the supervision of students.

Research

The candidate must possess a high scientific level in the field of Chinese linguistics and be inserted in research networks, through quality publications and participation in national and international scientific events (colloquia, conferences). He/She must be able to collaborate with researchers and research institutions in Asia as well as in the Western world.

Laboratories of affiliation

Based on his/her specialties, the recruited teacher-researcher will be able to join an Inalco team of his/her choice, including:

CRLAO (Centre de recherches linguistiques sur l'Asie orientale)

Depending on the specificities of his/her fields of study and research themes, the recruited person may choose to participate in the work of one or more of the following CRLAO axes:

1/ Diversity and diversification of East Asian and Southeast Asian languages
a) Reconstruction of language evolution in space and time, notably using quantitative and computer-assisted methods (comparatism, contact, phylogeny)
b) Description of little-described languages, mainly endangered languages with an oral tradition
c) Language typology

2/ Syntax and semantics of contemporary East Asian languages: approaches
a) Analysis and modeling
b) Cognitive models, acquisition
c) Resource building (open access): corpora, lexicons, etc.
d) Automatic language processing

3/ Chinese language and writing: emergence, evolution and diffusion
a) Chinese writing: synchronicity and diachronicity
b) History of linguistic knowledge
c) Syntax and historical semantics of Chinese (archaic, medieval, modern)
d) Cross-cutting theme: Siniform scripts in East Asia

IFRAE (Institut français de recherches sur l'Asie de l'est )

A relevant research project, in line with the team's axes, is expected. East Asian issues (China, Korea, Japan, Mongolia, Nepal, Tibet, Vietnam) is essential, as is a taste for teamwork and scientific leadership.

SEDYL (Structures et dynamiques des langues)

The candidate.e, with an excellent command of the language and working as closely as possible with specific data from a variety of corpora, could fit into one of Sedyl's axes:

(1) Reference and predication: research into language structure, grammar and its teaching, different aspecto-temporal and modal systems, the operation of discourse markers.

(2) Contact linguistics, social issues of plurilingualism (migration, education, language teaching), heterogeneous language practices (sub-national and migratory context), national and family language policies, language x in contact with other languages in the area.

Within the framework of projects carried out within Axis 2, SeDyL relies on its IRD supervisory body to carry out research in Southern countries in partnership with local institutions on themes such as the social issues of multilingualism and language contacts, the consideration of local languages in education, the study of plurilingual corpora, creole languages, languages in the diaspora. Candidates whose research and publications focus on one or more of these themes will be able to use the results of their work in teaching or training courses at INALCO (levels L & M).
