The DU H2M

The professional DU Hospitality, Mediations, Migration (H2M) is a pilot university course that has been training mediator-interpreters in a migratory context since 2019. It offers 160 hours of theoretical and practical courses and a professional internship.

The mediator-interpreters thus trained can subsequently practice within associations or public or private institutions specialized in welcoming people with a migration background. The DU Pro H2M enhances students' linguistic skills and their migratory and professional backgrounds. It enables students to master the sociological, cultural, legal, administrative and health issues involved in welcoming foreigners to France, and adapts mediation and interpretation to the specific constraints of migration.

At a glance

85% of DU H2M students are asylum seekers or recent refugees, and 15% are already settled and employed. The Afghan question (August 2021) and the Ukrainian question (February 2022) have had a major impact on the conduct of this degree. Of particular note is the strong presence of Afghan nationals in the program (10 students out of 30 for the 2020/2021 year), some of whom have been welcomed at Inalco as part of the "Emergency Afghanistan" action carried by the Foundation.

Year 2021/2022 is a class of 26 made up of no less than 17 different nationalities including Afghans, Iranians, Moroccans, Sudanese, Ethiopians or even French, Italians and many more. Together, they represent some forty languages spoken.

This university degree is therefore the embodiment of diversity, and helps pave the way for many refugees and asylum seekers. The DU H2M 2021-2022 has had a very high success rate, insofar as 100% of the students who completed the entire program graduated.

The graduation ceremony for this 2021/2022 year will take place at Inalco on Thursday, December 1 at 6:30pm in amphitheater 7 at the Pôle Langues et Civilisations (65 rue des Grands Moulins, 75013, Paris).
