Teaching

The candidate, who is expected to have an excellent command of Modern Greek (GM), will teach fundamental courses in theoretical and practical grammar and GM linguistics, at Licence (L1, L2, L3) and Master 1 & 2 levels, in coordination with the other courses taught in the "Language" unit (texts and written practice, oral practice of GM).

He/she will need to demonstrate a sound knowledge of theoretical work in Greek linguistics in order to apply it in his/her teaching and enable students to acquire the mechanisms of the GM language.

The profile of this position is divided into two articulated components.

In the teaching of grammar, key areas (phonetics and phonology, morphology, syntax) will need to be approached with a pedagogy adapted to the needs of learners, with the aim of understanding and mastering the language system.

The teaching of modern Greek linguistics, complementary to that of grammar, will focus on the structures of the language and how they function, through the study of central issues such as sentence organization, the particularities of the nominal and verbal, aspectual and modal systems, and discourse analysis. These subjects will be the subject of in-depth study based on a variety of textual sources (oral and written), representative of the modern Greek language in all its complexity and dynamics.

Skills in teaching linguistics will also be put to use in the course on the history of the Greek language, as well as in the collective seminar on the linguistics of Balkan languages, focusing on the question of language contacts, in which the recruited MCF will be expected to participate.

In this context, a reflection on the teaching of GM language and grammar to foreign students, demonstrated by academic work and/or by the application of this reflection during previous teaching experiences, will be appreciated.

The recruited MCF will organize his/her teaching project in line with the orientations of the Modern Greek team, with which he/she will be expected to demonstrate, from the outset, his/her qualities of collaboration. He/she will be required to propose changes to the range of courses in his/her field of expertise.

He/she will also be expected to contribute to the development of teaching tools, possibly digital, as part of projects currently being developed at the establishment. In this respect, competence in ICTE is desirable.

He/she will be able to provide part of his/her service in the department's regional teaching or in cross-disciplinary teaching at INALCO's bachelor's and master's levels.

Research

Related laboratories

SeDyL

The UMR 8202 SeDyL supports the recruitment of an MCF for the position of "Modern Greek Language and Linguistics".

With regard to the profile of the position being advertised, it is worth mentioning the applied side of the laboratory's project and its pedagogical aim, particularly in the teaching of languages far removed from French, such as Modern Greek. The work of description and analysis, carried out as closely as possible to the specific data of the language and giving a central place to reflection on the foundations of grammatical categorization (often inspired by the grammars and syntaxes of ancient Greek) and transcategorial phenomena, are indeed intended to ultimately lead to the development of new pedagogical tools.

With this in mind, SeDyL supports the recruitment of a candidate whose work will focus on a detailed description of Modern Greek data (including from a diachronic perspective), taking into account the interferences between different levels of analysis (morphology, syntax, semantics), as well as the processes ensuring the integration of the utterance in a variety of contexts, an essential area for both research and teaching.

Recruitment to this position would also support the Balkan linguistic area, as research in modern Greek linguistics is also part of this areal linguistics network, both in research and teaching (group seminar, M1). The research carried out in this extended field, apart from its own interest, will contribute to renewing methods in the comparative approach, essential in the laboratory's work, and to feeding this training program in an innovative way into INALCO's pedagogical offering.

CREE

The Centre de recherche Europes-Eurasie (CREE) fully supports the recruitment of an MCF in Modern Greek Language and Linguistics.

The CREE is looking for a specialist in linguistics (semantics, morphology, syntax) or sociolinguistics, whose work fits naturally into the "Production, diffusion, patrimonialization of cultural goods and shared linguistic diversity" axis of the 2025-2029 project.

Practical applications arising from the candidate's theoretical work could concern the development of pedagogical tools for learning Greek, the creation of grammars or dictionaries, and the automatic processing of modern Greek.

The ability to collaborate with specialists from linguistic areas other than Greek (particularly in the field of languages in contact, of particular interest to the team) or from other disciplines present within CREE (translatology, literature, anthropology, sociology, etc.) would be highly appreciated when evaluating applications.
