Short vocational training course on Turkey, in March and April 2023

Since the start of the 2022 academic year, the Continuing Education department has been offering short thematic training courses, led by expert lecturers, and focusing on socio-economic and geopolitical topics, security and defense issues, or multicultural team management. These courses are aimed at executives from the private, public or associative sectors, project managers, diplomats, military personnel and anyone wishing to develop their intercultural knowledge and skills by working on practical cases.

After having dealt with Ukraine's foreign and security policy, the next thematic training session will focus on Turkey's risks and opportunities on Fridays March 17, March 24 and April 7, 2023.

On the eve of the Turkish presidential and parliamentary elections, considered by the international media as "the most important elections in the world", scheduled for May 2023, we offer a training course to understand the fundamentals of Turkish public life. After a historical overview, we will cover the various aspects of the country: demographics, political system, institutions, foreign policy, economic life, foreign trade... A special focus will be placed on Turkey's booming arms industry. We will analyze the country's military potential to define how it could contribute to achieving middle-power status.

Training objectives

Discover Turkey and its international environment, and grasp the challenges of an emerging country's rise to power. After getting to know the participants' profiles, we will adapt the program according to their expectations. Finally, from an intercultural perspective, we will complete the training with a linguistic component to warn participants of the risks of misunderstandings, misinterpretations, sensitivities...

About the speaker

Michel Bozdémir is professor emeritus of Turkish language and civilization at Inalco. He is a member of the Centre de Recherches Moyen-Orient - Méditerranée (CERMOM). Author of numerous books and articles, he recently published: "La Turquie, nouvel acteur majeur en Afrique?", The Conversation, November 16, 2021. "Turcologie au sein de la Société Asiatique 1822 - 2022", Académie des inscriptions et des Belles Lettres, 2022.



With the participation of experts: Didier Billion (foreign policy / March 24), French geopolitologist specializing in Turkey and deputy director of the Institut de relations internationales et stratégiques. Marc Buker (economics / April 7), President of the Comité France-Turquie.
