SPOC Initial training
Presentation
The Arabic language SPOCs take the form of asynchronous teaching.
The course materials consist of over a hundred videos.
The SPOC contains self-corrected exercises with feedback (QUIZ) allowing self-assessment
at each stage of each lesson.
The content of each lesson can be downloaded as a PDF, along with the writing sheets. An indicative progression is proposed with division into weeks and days.
Pedagogical follow-up will be ensured by exchanges with the teacher in charge.
Training objectives and conditions
The SPOC requires a minimum individual workload of 50 hours.
It guarantees learning of the graphic system and oral and written learning, centered around five tasks at CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) level A1 (beginner level):
introduce yourself, get around, find accommodation, eat, make a purchase.
The course is offered in literal Arabic, and is coupled with an introduction to the Syrian-Lebanese dialect.
Personal assessment and final examination
The course is divided into five lessons, and each lesson into five units. At the end of each unit, as well as at the end of each lesson, an assessment MCQ is offered to students, with automatic correction and explanation of answers.
A mock exam is also offered at the end of the course. It is rigorously identical in design and level of assessment to the final exam. In this way, students can assess themselves at any time in relation to what is required.
The training course leads to a terminal assessment, in the form of a half-hour MCQ-type exam including questions on the content of the lessons.
The terminal exam takes place at the end of the academic year, during the exam period. Examination results are forwarded to the pedagogical secretariats of Inalco and other establishments that have entered into an agreement.
How to apply and registration procedure
The SPOC course is open to students on courses that integrate it: currently the DDL and TAL Masters at Inalco (students from the Institute, Université de Paris Cité, Sorbonne Nouvelle), students at the Ecole du Louvre, students on the "Intelligence" Masters at Sciences Po Aix-en-Provence. It is likely to be offered to any establishment that requests it.
It is strictly reserved for complete beginners in Arabic, who can follow it at their own pace throughout the year. It's possible to log on whenever you want, as many times as you want, asynchronous teaching allowing absolute flexibility in the choice of timetables. Please note, however, that these courses are demanding, requiring progressive work over time (it is advisable to spread the work over ten weeks or so). Validation of the exam results in 4 ECTS credits per year.
