Definitions
- The term "European applicants" refers here to candidates who are nationals of the European Union (EU), the European Economic Area (EEA), the Swiss Confederation, Monaco, or Andorra.
- The term "non-EU international applicants" refers here to applicants who are not nationals of a state belonging to the European Union, a state party to the Agreement on the European Economic Area, the Swiss Confederation, the Principality of Andorra, the Principality of Monaco, or the province of Quebec.
1. Choose a degree course
Prior to applying, please find out more about the degree courses offered at Inalco on the following pages:

2. Apply
The procedures vary depending on the degree you wish to apply for and on your nationality, your country of residence, and the degree(s) you have already obtained.
Apply for the first year of a Bachelor’s degree (Licence 1)

The procedure for admission to the first year of a bachelor's degree (Licence 1) depends on your nationality, your country of residence and your high school diploma. The exact list of admission procedures to French higher education depending on your situation is available at the following page.
European and non-European applicants with a French or European baccalaureate

Non-European applicants holding an International Baccalaureate or a secondary school leaving certificate issued by a country outside the EU and EEA
► If you reside in France, you must follow the Demande d’Admission Préalable (DAP) “green file” procedure. You need to complete the DAP green file and return it by email to View e-mail before 15 December 2025. The list of required documents is available in the green file’s explanatory notice. The file can also be sent by registered mail with acknowledgment of receipt to the following address: Inalco – International Relations Office – Room 3.37 – 65 Rue des Grands Moulins – 75013 Paris, France.
► If you live abroad in a country covered by the Études en France procedure, you must apply directly online, on the Études en France platform before 15 December 2025. For details of this procedure, please refer to the following page.
► If you reside abroad in a country not covered by the Études en France procedure, you must follow the Demande d’Admission Préalable (DAP) “white file” procedure. To learn about the DAP white file process, please contact the Campus France Office at the French Embassy in your country of residence. Inalco does not directly process any DAP applications from candidates living outside France.

Please note: To apply for the 2nd year of a bachelor's degree, you must be preparing for, or have already completed, the 1st year of a bachelor's degree. Similarly, to apply for the 3rd year of a bachelor's degree, you must be preparing or have already completed a 2nd year of a bachelor's degree.
The admission procedure depends on your nationality, your country of residence and your secondary school leaving certificate. Below you will find the procedure to follow according to your situation.
European and non-European applicants currently studying at a French or European university

Non-European applicants currently living or studying in a country outside the EU or EEA
► If you live abroad in a country covered by the Études en France procedure, you must apply directly online via the Études en France platform. For details of this procedure, please consult the following page. Applications opened on 1 October 2025. The application deadline should be confirmed with the Campus France Office in your country of residence.
► If you reside abroad in a country not covered by the Études en France procedure, you must apply directly to Inalco via an online form, available from 9 February to 9 March 2026. The documents required for your application are as follows:
- Passport
- Passport photo
- Cover letter (A4 format, typed)
- CV
- Secondary school leaving certificate (original version + official translation into French)
- Higher education transcripts (original version + translation into French)
- Higher education diplomas obtained (original version + translation into French)
- French language certification: DELF/DALF or TCF complete with 5 tests (minimum level B1; B2 or C1 may be required for some courses)

Please note: To apply for the first year of a Master’s program, you must either be completing (enrolled in the final year) or have already obtained a Bachelor’s degree. Similarly, to apply for the second year of a Master’s program, you must either be completing or have already obtained the first year of a Master’s program.
The admission procedure depends on your nationality, country of residence, and highest completed degree. You will find below the procedure to follow according to your situation.
Non-European candidates currently residing or studying in a country outside the EU or EEA covered by the Études en France procedure
► You must apply directly online via the Études en France platform. For details of this procedure, please consult the following page. Applications are currently opened. The application deadline should be confirmed with the Campus France Office in your country of residence.
European candidates and non-European candidates currently studying at a French or European university, or residing in a country not covered by the Études en France procedure
► You must follow the same procedure as French nationals; please refer to the following page, and via MonMaster platform. For further information, please contact Inalco's Registrar's Office at the following e-mail address: View e-mail.
Applicants in exile
Applicants in exile
Exile applicants are refugees, stateless persons or beneficiaries of subsidiary/temporary protection.
Depending on your profile, you may be eligible for the DU Passerelle Inalco.

French Levels and Certificates
As Inalco's courses are taught in French, all applicants must prove that they have a sufficient level of proficiency in French to be able to follow the courses effectively. If the candidate's level of French is considered insufficient to follow the course applied for, the candidate may receive a positive admission result, on condition that they follow French courses in the Inal'FLE section of Inalco.

Level required
International candidates must demonstrate a minimum B1 level in French. Due to the high number of applicants and the difficulty of the courses, some departments require a minimum B2 level.
For professional programs, candidates must demonstrate a minimum C1 level in French (and a minimum B2 level in English).

Candidates must provide proof of their level of French by submitting one of the following certificates:
- DELF or DALF
- TCF complete with the 3 compulsory tests and the 2 optional tests. Any TCF that does not include these 5 tests will be automatically disregarded.

- Nationals of countries where French is the only official language
- Candidates holding a secondary school completion certificate from a country where French is the only official language
- Applicants who are nationals or residents of a country where French is not the only official language, and whose secondary education was mainly conducted in French
- Applicants from other countries may benefit from this exemption if they have received instruction in French at secondary level in establishments whose list is drawn up jointly by the Minister for Higher Education and the Minister for Foreign Affairs.
3. After admission, apply for your visa and complete administrative enrollment at Inalco
If you are accepted to Inalco, you must complete your enrollment by following the steps below, depending on the application procedure you followed.
Students who applied through the Études en France platform
Students who applied through the Études en France platform
- If you are notified that you have been accepted, you must confirm that you accept the offer of admission via the platform. You must confirm your acceptance before the deadline indicated in the offer of admission.
- You can then submit your visa application to the consulate using the procedure indicated on Etudes En France. You must have obtained your visa to proceed with your administrative registration at Inalco.
- Within a few days of obtaining your visa, we will send you a message via the Études en France platform with the link to the webpage where you will be able to complete your administrative registration, following the same procedures as national students, after paying the CVEC.
- Once you have paid your tuition fees, your administrative registration will be complete. Your documents will go through a final validation by the administrative staff of Inalco.
- Once your registration is finalized, you will then be able to download your certificate of enrolment from your Espace Numérique de Travail (ENT).
Once your administrative registration is complete, communication with Inalco will be by email only, via the address given in your administrative registration. If you have any questions about your courses at Inalco, please contact your department's pedagogical secretariat.
Students who applied through another procedure
Students who applied through another procedure
- If your application is successful, you must confirm that you accept the offer of admission you have received. You must confirm your acceptance before the deadline indicated in the e-mail.
- If you accept the offer, an Acceptance Letter will be sent to you, enabling you to start the visa application procedure.
- At the beginning of July, you will receive an e-mail containing the application form, which you must complete, sign and return to us, along with all supporting documents. You will be asked to pay the CVEC. This application form must be sent to us before the deadline for administrative registration indicated on the Acceptance Letter, otherwise admission will be automatically cancelled.
- An online payment link will then be sent to you to pay the tuition fees.
- Once the administrative registration has been completed, you will receive your certificate of enrolment.

Non-EU international applicants for a bachelor's or master's program
For the 2025-2026 academic year, non-EU students are subject to differentiated tuition fees as outlined in the provisions of the decree of April 19, 2019, for enrollment in a new bachelor's or master's program.
The differentiated tuition fees are as follows:
€2,895 per year for a bachelor’s degree
€3,941 per year for a master’s degree

Nationality: EU / non-EU
► I am a national of a European Union (EU) member country and/or European Economic Area (EEA), and/or of Andorra, Monaco, or Quebec. Am I subject to differentiated tuition fees? NO, you are not subject to differentiated tuition fees for the entire duration of your studies. You pay the same national tuition fees as French students.
► I am not a national of an EU/EEA country, Andorra, Monaco, or Quebec. Am I subject to differentiated tuition fees? YES, you are subject to differentiated tuition fees and must pay €2895 per year for undergraduate (Licence) studies and €3941 per year for Master’s studies. HOWEVER, several exemption criteria exist, defined by decree or by Inalco’s Board of Directors. Main exemption criteria are listed at the end of this document.
Already enrolled at Inalco
► I am not an EU/EEA/Andorra/Monaco/Quebec national but I was enrolled at Inalco in 2024-25 and am continuing the same program. Am I subject to differentiated tuition fees? NO, you are not subject to differentiated fees and pay the same national tuition fees as French students.
Examples:
- Enrolled in the first year of a Bachelor’s degree (Licence 1) or in intensive diploma in 2024-25: you do not pay differentiated fees for Licence 2 in 2025-26.
- Enrolled in an initiation in 2024-25: you do not pay differentiated fees for your enrollment in the first year of a Bachelor's degree (Licence 1) in 2025–26, as long as it is in the same subject area or language as your diploma program. In the case of the introductory diploma in Arabic language, the Bachelor's programs in Arabic Studies (LLCER) — covering Literary Arabic, Maghrebi Arabic, and Levantine Arabic — are considered a continuation of the curriculum.
► I am not an EU/EEA/Andorra/Monaco/Quebec national but I was enrolled at Inalco in 2024-25 and repeating the same program. Am I subject to differentiated tuition fees? NO, you are not subject to differentiated fees. The exemption applies to the entire uninterrupted cycle, up to 5 years for undergraduate and 4 years for Master’s programs, excluding gap years.
► I am not an EU/EEA/Andorra/Monaco/Quebec national but I was also enrolled at Inalco in Licence 3 in 2024-25 and am continuing to Master 1 in 2025-26. Am I subject to differentiated tuition fees? NO, continuing directly from L3 to M1 exempts you from differentiated fees.
► I am not an EU/EEA/Andorra/Monaco/Quebec national but I was also previously enrolled at Inalco, but not in 2024-25 or before 2019. Am I subject to differentiated tuition fees? YES, unless another exemption applies.
Type of Degree
► I am not an EU/EEA/Andorra/Monaco/Quebec national and want to enroll in a distance-learning program. Am I subject to differentiated fees? YES, distance learning is not exempt. You must pay €2895 (Licence) or €3941 (Master) per year, unless another exemption applies.
► I am not an EU/EEA/Andorra/Monaco/Quebec national and I want to enroll in a University (non-national) diploma. Am I subject to differentiated fees? NO, differentiated fees apply only to national diplomas. University diplomas have their own tuition rates.
► I am not an EU/EEA/Andorra/Monaco/Quebec national and I want to enroll in a PhD. Do I pay differentiated tuition fees? NO, differentiated fees apply only to 1st and 2nd cycle degrees (Licence and Master).
Residence Status in France
► I am not an EU/EEA/Andorra/Monaco/Quebec national but I am also a refugee (or stateless, under temporary or subsidiary protection, or an asylum seeker). Do I pay differentiated tuition fees? NO, and this also applies to children or legal dependents of individuals with such status. Exemption requires proof and decision by the President of the university.
► I am a non-EU/EEA/Andorra/Monaco/Quebec national but a resident in France. Do I pay differentiated fees?
- YES, if you are a short-term resident, unless another exemption applies.
- NO, if you hold a long-term residence permit (“carte de résident” or “EU long-term resident card”) or a 10-year Algerian residence certificate.
- NO, if your household has been fiscally based in France for at least 2 years as of January 1st of the year of enrolment (proof via tax notices for 2023, 2024, and 2025).
Special Status: Scholarship Holder, CPGE, Exchange Student
► I am not an EU/EEA/Andorra/Monaco/Quebec national but I am also a scholarship student on social criteria (CROUS). Do I pay differentiated fees? NO, as well as French government scholarship holders.
► I am not an EU/EEA/Andorra/Monaco/Quebec national but I am also in a CPGE (Classe Préparatoire aux Grandes Écoles) and registered at Inalco. Do I pay differentiated fees? NO, CPGE students enrolled in public high schools pay national tuition fees.
► I am not an EU/EEA/Andorra/Monaco/Quebec national but I am an exchange student studying at Inalco through Erasmus+ or a bilateral agreement. Do I pay differentiated fees? NO, exchange students are fully exempt from tuition fees.
Family Situation
► I am not an EU/EEA/Andorra/Monaco/Quebec national but I am also a family member of an EU citizen. Do I pay differentiated fees? NO, holders of a “family member of an EU/EEA/Swiss citizen residence permit” are exempt.
► I am not an EU/EEA/Andorra/Monaco/Quebec national but I am also a minor child of a long-term residence permit holder. Do I pay differentiated fees? NO, supporting documents such as proof of relationship and parent’s residence status must be provided.
► I am not an EU/EEA/Andorra/Monaco/Quebec national but I am also a child or dependent of a person with refugee, stateless, temporary or subsidiary protection, or asylum seeker status. Do I pay differentiated fees? NO, supporting documents such as proof of relationship or tutorship and parent’s residence status must be provided.
Enrolled in 2018-19 in a French Higher Education Institution or FLE Center
► I am not an EU/EEA/Andorra/Monaco/Quebec national but I was enrolled in 2018-19 in a French higher education institution or FLE (French as a Foreign Language) center. Do I pay differentiated fees? NO, you pay only national tuition fees for the entire duration of your studies.
