Would you like to apply for a degree program at Inalco (Bachelor’s, Master’s, or University diploma) outside of a student exchange agreement? Here, you will find the procedure to follow to submit an individual application.
Definitions
- The term "European applicants" refers here to candidates who are nationals of the European Union (EU), the European Economic Area (EEA), the Swiss Confederation, Monaco, or Andorra.
- The term "non-EU international applicants" refers here to applicants who are not nationals of a state belonging to the European Union, a state party to the Agreement on the European Economic Area, the Swiss Confederation, the Principality of Andorra, the Principality of Monaco, or the province of Quebec.
1. Choose a degree course

2. Apply
The procedures vary depending on the degree you wish to apply for and on your nationality, your country of residence, and the degree(s) you have already obtained.
Apply for the first year of a Bachelor’s degree (Licence 1)

The procedure for admission to the first year of a bachelor's degree (Licence 1) depends on your nationality, your country of residence and your high school diploma. The exact list of admission procedures to French higher education depending on your situation is available at the following page.
European and non-European applicants with a French or European baccalaureate

Non-European applicants holding an International Baccalaureate or a secondary school leaving certificate issued by a country outside the EU and EEA
► If you reside in France, you must follow the Demande d’Admission Préalable (DAP) “green file” procedure. You need to complete the DAP green file and return it by email to View e-mail before 15 December 2025. The list of required documents is available in the green file’s explanatory notice. The file can also be sent by registered mail with acknowledgment of receipt to the following address: Inalco – International Relations Office – Room 3.37 – 65 Rue des Grands Moulins – 75013 Paris, France.
► If you live abroad in a country covered by the Études en France procedure, you must apply directly online, on the Études en France platform before 15 December 2025. For details of this procedure, please refer to the following page.
► If you reside abroad in a country not covered by the Études en France procedure, you must follow the Demande d’Admission Préalable (DAP) “white file” procedure. To learn about the DAP white file process, please contact the Campus France Office at the French Embassy in your country of residence. Inalco does not directly process any DAP applications from candidates living outside France.

Please note: To apply for the 2nd year of a bachelor's degree, you must be preparing for, or have already completed, the 1st year of a bachelor's degree. Similarly, to apply for the 3rd year of a bachelor's degree, you must be preparing or have already completed a 2nd year of a bachelor's degree.
The admission procedure depends on your nationality, your country of residence and your secondary school leaving certificate. Below you will find the procedure to follow according to your situation.
European and non-European applicants currently studying at a French or European university

Non-European applicants currently living or studying in a country outside the EU or EEA
► If you live abroad in a country covered by the Études en France procedure, you must apply directly online via the Études en France platform. For details of this procedure, please consult the following page. Applications opened on 1 October 2025. The application deadline should be confirmed with the Campus France Office in your country of residence.
► If you reside in France or abroad in a country not covered by the Études en France procedure, you must apply directly to Inalco via this online application form, available from 9 February to 9 March 2026. The documents required for your application are as follows:
- Passport
- Passport photo
- Cover letter (A4 format, typed)
- CV
- Secondary school leaving certificate (original version + official translation into French)
- Higher education transcripts (original version + translation into French)
- Higher education diplomas obtained (original version + translation into French)
- French language certification: DELF/DALF or TCF complete with 5 tests (minimum level B1; B2 or C1 may be required for some courses)

Please note: To apply for the first year of a Master’s program, you must either be completing (enrolled in the final year) or have already obtained a Bachelor’s degree. Similarly, to apply for the second year of a Master’s program, you must either be completing or have already obtained the first year of a Master’s program.

Non-European candidates currently residing or studying in a country outside the EU or EEA covered by the Études en France procedure
► You must apply directly online via the Études en France platform. For details of this procedure, please consult the following page. Applications are currently opened. The application deadline should be confirmed with the Campus France Office in your country of residence.
European candidates and non-European candidates currently studying at a French or European university, or residing in a country not covered by the Études en France procedure

Exile applicants are refugees, stateless persons or beneficiaries of subsidiary/temporary protection.
Depending on your profile, you may be eligible for the DU Passerelle Inalco.

French Levels and Certificates
As Inalco's courses are taught in French, all applicants must prove that they have a sufficient level of proficiency in French to be able to follow the courses effectively. If the candidate's level of French is considered insufficient to follow the course applied for, the candidate may receive a positive admission result, on condition that they follow French courses in the Inal'FLE section of Inalco.

General Information
Undergraduate (Licence) applicants must provide proof of at least a B1 level in French. Due to the difficulty of certain courses, some departments require a minimum B2 level. For professional tracks at the undergraduate level, a minimum C1 level in French and/or at least a B2 in English level is/are required.
Master’s degree applicants must provide proof of at least a C1 level in French. Some programmes, particularly professional tracks, require a C2 level in French and/or at least a C1 level in English.
Applicants for an Inalco institutional diploma must provide proof of at least a B1 level in French.
Because of the level of difficulty of certain courses, some diplomas may require a higher level—please check the programme catalogue on the Études en France platform for details.

Candidates must provide proof of their level of French by submitting one of the following certificates:
- DELF or DALF
- TCF complete with the 3 compulsory tests and the 2 optional tests. Any TCF that does not include these 5 tests will be automatically disregarded.

- Nationals of countries where French is the only official language
- Candidates holding a secondary school completion certificate from a country where French is the only official language
- Applicants who are nationals or residents of a country where French is not the only official language, and whose secondary education was mainly conducted in French
- Applicants from other countries may benefit from this exemption if they have received instruction in French at secondary level in establishments whose list is drawn up jointly by the Minister for Higher Education and the Minister for Foreign Affairs.
3. After admission, apply for your visa and complete administrative enrollment at Inalco
If you are accepted to Inalco, you must complete your enrollment by following the steps below, depending on the application procedure you followed.
Students who applied through the Études en France platform
Students who applied through the Études en France platform
- If you are notified that you have been accepted, you must confirm that you accept the offer of admission via the platform. You must confirm your acceptance before the deadline indicated in the offer of admission.
- You can then submit your visa application to the consulate using the procedure indicated on Etudes En France. You must have obtained your visa to proceed with your administrative registration at Inalco.
- Within a few days of obtaining your visa, we will send you a message via the Études en France platform with the link to the webpage where you will be able to complete your administrative registration, following the same procedures as national students, after paying the CVEC.
- Once you have paid your tuition fees, your administrative registration will be complete. Your documents will go through a final validation by the administrative staff of Inalco.
- Once your registration is finalized, you will then be able to download your certificate of enrolment from your Espace Numérique de Travail (ENT).
Once your administrative registration is complete, communication with Inalco will be by email only, via the address given in your administrative registration. If you have any questions about your courses at Inalco, please contact your department's pedagogical secretariat.
Students who applied through another procedure
Students who applied through another procedure
- If your application is successful, you must confirm that you accept the offer of admission you have received. You must confirm your acceptance before the deadline indicated in the e-mail.
- If you accept the offer, an Acceptance Letter will be sent to you, enabling you to start the visa application procedure.
- At the beginning of July, you will receive an e-mail containing the application form, which you must complete, sign and return to us, along with all supporting documents. You will be asked to pay the CVEC. This application form must be sent to us before the deadline for administrative registration indicated on the Acceptance Letter, otherwise admission will be automatically cancelled.
- An online payment link will then be sent to you to pay the tuition fees.
- Once the administrative registration has been completed, you will receive your certificate of enrolment.
Please note that once you have completed your administrative registration, you will be able to proceed with your academic registration. To do this, please consult the pedagogical registration page.

Non-EU international applicants for a bachelor's or master's program
Since the 2025-2026 academic year, non-EU students are subject to differentiated tuition fees for enrollment in a bachelor's or master's program.
The differentiated tuition fees are as follows:
€2,902 per year for a bachelor’s degree
€3,950 per year for a master’s degree

► I am not a national of an EU/EEA country, Andorra, Monaco, or a resident of Quebec and wish to enroll in a Bachelor’s (Licence) or Master’s program. Am I subject to differentiated tuition fees? YES, you are subject to differentiated tuition fees and must pay €2,902 per year for a Bachelor’s (Licence) program and €3,950 per year for a Master’s program. HOWEVER, there are several grounds for non-liability or exemption from differentiated tuition fees, which are set at the national level or decided by the President of Inalco based on individual circumstances. The main grounds are listed later in this document.
► I am not a national of an EU/EEA country, Andorra, Monaco, or a resident of Quebec and wish to enroll in a distance-learning Bachelor’s or Master’s program. Am I subject to differentiated tuition fees? YES, distance learning does not qualify for exemptions. You must pay €2,902 per year for a Bachelor’s (Licence) program and €3,950 per year for a Master’s program, unless you qualify for another exemption.
► I am not a national of an EU/EEA country, Andorra, Monaco, or a resident of Quebec and wish to enroll in a university (non-national) diploma. Am I subject to differentiated tuition fees? NO, differentiated tuition fees only apply to national diplomas. University diplomas have their own tuition rates, which can be consulted here.
► I am not a national of an EU/EEA country, Andorra, Monaco, or Quebec and wish to enroll in a PhD program. Do I pay differentiated tuition fees? NO, differentiated tuition fees only apply to first and second cycle national diplomas (Bachelor’s and Master’s programs).
Nationality
► I am a national of an EU/EEA country, Andorra, Monaco, or a resident of Quebec. Am I subject to differentiated tuition fees? NO, you are not subject to differentiated tuition fees for the entire duration of your studies. You pay the same national tuition fees as French students. Supporting documents: ID card, passport, or for Quebec residents: Canadian passport and Quebec health insurance card.
► I am not a national of an EU/EEA country, Andorra, Monaco, or a resident of Quebec. Am I subject to differentiated tuition fees? YES, you are subject to differentiated tuition fees and must pay €2,902 per year for a Bachelor’s (Licence) program and €3,950 per year for a Master’s program, unless you qualify for another exemption.
Scholarship Status
► I am not a national of an EU/EEA country, Andorra, Monaco, or a resident of Quebec, but I am a scholarship holder based on social criteria (CROUS) or a French government scholarship recipient (e.g., excellence scholarships from French embassies). Do I pay differentiated tuition fees? NO, you are fully exempt from tuition fees. Supporting documents: CROUS scholarship certificate, Campus France certificate, or certificate from the relevant French embassy.
Residence Status in France
► I am not a national of an EU/EEA country, Andorra, Monaco, or a resident of Quebec, but I am a refugee (or stateless, under temporary or subsidiary protection, or an asylum seeker). Do I pay differentiated tuition fees?NO, students with refugee status, stateless persons, beneficiaries of temporary or subsidiary protection, and asylum seekers are fully exempt from differentiated tuition fees. Supporting documents: Residence permit specifying the status, asylum application certificate (ATDA), or temporary stay authorization (APS).
► I am not a national of an EU/EEA country, Andorra, Monaco, or a resident of Quebec, but I am a resident in France. Am I subject to differentiated tuition fees?
- YES, if you hold a temporary residence permit (e.g., long-stay visa valid as a residence permit (VLS-TS), one-year temporary residence card, multi-year residence card, private and family life residence card, etc.), unless you qualify for another exemption.
- NO, if you hold a permanent residence permit as referred to in 5° and 6° articles of of Article L. 411-1 of CESEDA. Supporting documents: Carte de séjour résident (carte de résident valable 10 ans ou carte de résident longue durée – UE ou carte de résident permanent)
- NO, if your tax household has been based in France for at least 2 years as of January 1st of the enrollment year. Supporting documents: For the 2026-27 academic year, provide 3 tax notices (2024, 2025, and 2026 for 2023, 2024, and 2025 income) or, for 2025, a personal income tax declaration. For tax household attachment: ID of the declarant and the 3 tax declarations mentioning the civil status of the attached person.
Family Situation
► I am not a national of an EU/EEA country, Andorra, Monaco, or a resident of Quebec, but I hold a residence card as a “family member of an EU/EEA/Swiss citizen” or a “Directive 2004/38/EC” card. Do I pay differentiated tuition fees? NO, differentiated tuition fees do not apply to holders of these residence cards.
Supporting documents: “Family member of an EU/EEA/Swiss citizen” residence card or “Directive 2004/38/EC” card.
Example: If you are the spouse of a French citizen and hold a “Vie Privée et Familiale” residence card issued by France, you are subject to differentiated tuition fees, as this card does not grant an exemption.
► I am not a national of an EU/EEA country, Andorra, Monaco, or a resident of Quebec, but I am a minor child (<18) or dependent of a long-term residence permit holder (10-year card). Do I pay differentiated tuition fees? NO, differentiated tuition fees do not apply in this case. Supporting documents: Parent’s residence card, child’s ID, family record book, or any document proving filiation or dependency.
► I am not a national of an EU/EEA country, Andorra, Monaco, or a resident of Quebec, but I am a direct child or ward of a person with refugee, stateless, temporary or subsidiary protection, or asylum seeker status. Do I pay differentiated tuition fees? NO, differentiated tuition fees do not apply in this case, you are fully exempted of fees. Supporting documents: Residence card specifying the status, asylum application certificate (ATDA), or temporary stay authorization (APS), and the child’s ID, family record book, or any document proving filiation or guardianship.
Special Study Status: Already Enrolled at Inalco, Exchange Student, CPGE, or Enrolled in a French Higher Education Institution or FLE Center Since 2018-19
► I am not a national of an EU/EEA country, Andorra, Monaco, or a resident of Quebec, but I was enrolled at Inalco in 2025-26, exempt from differentiated tuition fees, and am continuing in the same program. Am I subject to differentiated tuition fees? NO, you are not subject to differentiated tuition fees. You pay the same national tuition fees as French students. Note: Inalco considers the continuity between introductory/intensive diplomas and the first year of a Bachelor’s (Licence 1) in the same language. Supporting documents: 2025-26 enrollment certificate.
Examples:
- Enrolled in Licence 1 in 2025-26 and exempt from differentiated fees: you do not pay differentiated fees for Licence 2 in 2026-27.
- Enrolled in an introductory or intensive diploma (e.g., Literary Arabic, Russian, Chinese) in 2025-26: you do not pay differentiated fees for Licence 1 in the same language in 2026-27.
► I am not a national of an EU/EEA country, Andorra, Monaco, or a resident of Quebec, but I was enrolled at Inalco in 2025-26, exempt from differentiated tuition fees, and am repeating the same program. Am I subject to differentiated tuition fees? NO, you are not subject to differentiated tuition fees. You pay the same national tuition fees as French students. HOWEVER, the exemption applies for the entire uninterrupted cycle, up to 5 years for Bachelor’s programs and 4 years for Master’s programs, excluding gap years. Supporting documents: 2025-26 enrollment certificate.
► I am not a national of an EU/EEA country, Andorra, Monaco, or a resident of Quebec, but I am studying at Inalco as part of an exchange program. Do I pay differentiated tuition fees? NO, you are not subject to differentiated tuition fees. Students enrolled in a partner foreign university and studying at Inalco under a bilateral agreement or Erasmus+ program are fully exempt from tuition fees. Supporting documents: Your administrative enrollment is directly processed by Inalco’s Europe and International Affairs (DEI) department, which verifies the necessary documents with your home university.
► I am not a national of an EU/EEA country, Andorra, Monaco, or a resident of Quebec, but I am a student in a Classe Préparatoire aux Grandes Écoles (CPGE) in a public high school and also enrolled at Inalco. Am I subject to differentiated tuition fees? NO, you are not subject to differentiated tuition fees. Students enrolled in a CPGE in a public high school and registering for a Bachelor’s program pay the same tuition fees as French students. Supporting documents: CPGE enrollment certificate.
