Since 2006, the Centre d'Etudes et de Recherche Moyen-Orient, Méditerranée, CERMOM (EA 4091), has brought together some fifty tenured research professors (Inalco, Sorbonne Université and Paris 8) specializing in the Middle East and Mediterranean cultural area (Arab world, Mediterranean and Muslim societies, Jewish societies (Israel and diaspora), Turco-Persian, Greek and Kurdish worlds).

Created from the merger of three teams, the Centre d'Etudes et de Recherche Moyen-Orient, Méditerranée, CERMOM (EA 4091), has since 2006 brought together some 50 tenured research professors (mainly from Inalco, but also from Sorbonne Université and Paris 8) specializing in the Middle East and Mediterranean cultural area (Arab world, Mediterranean and Muslim societies, Jewish societies (Israel and diaspora), Turco-Persian, Greek and Kurdish worlds). The timeframe covered extends from the Middle Ages (7th century) to the present day. The team is multidisciplinary: it has a strong orientation towards contemporary and classical literature, both written and oral (ANR MSFIMA; ANR Aliento; ANR LJtrad; ANR Rieti; MigrENab), linguistics (Semitic linguistics, dialectology, language contacts in the Mediterranean, corpus linguistics), philosophy and religions (DISCORDIA project), human and social sciences and digital (digital pedagogies and documentary and research databases).

Publications, a strong presence at international symposia, the organization of scientific events, specialized seminars, media appearances, the production of methodological and didactic tools and exhibitions are just some of the ways in which CERMOM members communicate the results of their research.

CERMOM's teacher-researchers are involved in several Groupements d'Intérêt Scientifique (GIS Monde Musulman, GIS Genre, GIS Religions) and are called upon for expert missions.

In addition to the fifty or so doctoral students it trains, the team welcomes numerous young researchers from all over the world, bearers of innovative projects and holders of international, French and European fellowships (Marie-Curie-Klodowska).

The CERMOM publishes the journal Yod, devoted to Hebraic & Jewish studies, published by Presses de l'Inalco.
Dir. I.-.I. Malibert - Editorial Committee: S. Perego, M.-Ch. Bornes Varol, R. Cohen-Muller, E. Carandina, A. Bikard, A. Lissa.

The CERMOM (EA 4091) is the host and support team for the LLCO specialization: Arabic Studies and Hebrew Studies of the Inalco Master's degree, as well as for the HSTM specialization: PMO. Since 2006, these teams have been working together on multidisciplinary, areal or cross-disciplinary research themes, in a structure that enables them to carry out research projects and provide doctoral supervision. Today, the team includes 47 tenured teacher-researchers and 20 associate researchers, and hosts 57 doctoral students, including 4 on doctoral contracts.
