Cognitive security in the age of AI: from individual cognition to societal resilience

The ANR AID Gecko project, in partnership with Inria’s CogSec exploratory initiative, is organising a conference on: Cognitive security in the age of AI: from individual cognition to societal resilience

This academic conference explores cognitive security as an emerging interdisciplinary field of research, situated at the intersection of the humanities and social sciences, information and communication technologies (ICT) and public policy. The widespread adoption of hybrid warfare in ongoing conflicts clearly demonstrates that future cyber-threats will increasingly target not only computers and networks, but also human perception, attention, memory and beliefs, as well as collective decision-making. In these new forms of influence and conflict, the cognitive realm is both the means and the target.

Our aim is to examine cognitive security across three interconnected levels: individual cognition, including decision-making, persuasion, trust, cognitive biases, mental models and human-autonomous system collaboration; collective cognition, focusing on communities, online groups, social influence, coordination and narrative formation; and, finally, population-scale cognition, addressing systemic risks such as large-scale opinion dynamics, democratic resilience, knowledge ecosystems and cognitive warfare.
