Today, it's essential to get to know Finnish cinema, not least because it illustrates the transformations that Nordic film culture has undergone over the last twenty-five years. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, this was marked by increased professionalization and commercial aspirations, which led to development models throughout the first decades of the 21st century defined by industrialization. The shift from a more artisanal production approach to longer-term production chains implies a greater emphasis on sectoral policies and strategic investments, which we address here by considering the specificity of Finnish cinema, notably its status as a small national cinema located in a peripheral geocultural area.
