Cultural interactions through the example of translations of works by Slovak historians into French (1989/1993 - 2025)
Lecture by Michal Kšiňan.
The conference will focus on the problem of translating the works of Slovak historians into French, which it will present as an example of Franco-Slovak cultural interaction set within a broader regional and disciplinary framework. We will identify the key players in this intercultural interaction: institutions, individuals and opportunities that create favorable conditions for translations into French. We will also look at the reception of these translations in French and, more broadly, European society, as well as in historiography. The conference stands at the crossroads of historiography, participant observation, egohistory and cultural studies.
