Jeju Island, located at the southern end of the Korean peninsula, was the scene of massacres of civilians in the context of the division of Korea. This tragedy, known as 'Jeju sasam' ('sasam' meaning 'on April 3', in this case from the year 1948) and long ignored by the South Korean authorities, left a lasting trauma in the memory of the survivors and, more broadly, nationals of Jeju some of whom took refuge in Japan.. We will be interested during this day of study, in a multidisciplinary and multilingual approach, in the different modalities of the work of investigation and transmission of memory about this drama. It will be divided into two parts: the first will be devoted to the study of literary works by Korean authors and Japanese Koreans (Han Kang, Hyun Ki-young, Kim Sok Bom, Kim Si Jong...), the second at the screening of Jiseul (2012), a fiction film by the South-Korean O Muel, who illustrates these events and who was awarded at the Festival of Asian Cinemas in Vesoul. This cinema session will be followed by a panel discussion bringing together specialists from several disciplines.
