To mark the launch of the book Kosa Pan in the Kingdom of Louis XIV (1686–1698): A Siamese Voice in the French Archives, this evening’s event offers an opportunity to rediscover the figure of Kosa Pan, the Siamese ambassador sent to the court of Louis XIV in 1686. Through his diaries, correspondence and diplomatic reports preserved in the French archives, the Thai historian Thissana Weerakietsoontorn will explore this encounter between the Siamese and French worlds, giving a Siamese voice to shed light on relations between the two kingdoms.

This event follows on from the visit by the Princess of Thailand in 2024, followed by the symposium and exhibition organised in Bangkok in June 2026 focusing on Prince Damrong Rajanubhab and George Cœdès, as part of the 170th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between France and Thailand.

The lecture will be followed by a Q&A session with the audience, a book-signing and a drinks reception.
