Spring (Kevade)

1969, Estonian, VOSTFR, 84 min.

This film has twice been voted best Estonian film of all time. Adapted from the famous novel of the same name by Oskar Luts (1887-1953), it provides a humorous chronicle of an Estonian country school at the end of the 19th century. During the winter term, the pupils of Paunvere parish school - Arno, Teele, Toots, Kiir, Tõnisson and Imelik - experience feelings they will remember for the rest of their lives: true friendship, first love, self-discovery and the search for one's place in life. The story, rich in twists and turns, colorful characters, ingenious jokes and delicate emotions, recounts the evolution of these young people during the most sensitive years of their lives.
