Taiwanese know-how systems and the world: interaction, mediation and innovation

This interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary seminar, organized on a monthly basis but also with a hybrid system, is proposed as part of the Taiwanese Studies program set up at Inalco since the year 2024-2025.

The seminar aims to analyze and explore the "know-how systems developed by Taiwanese society and people" during the construction of contemporary Taiwanese society and its identity. In addition to analyzing and discussing "the forms of representation, structure, characteristics, concepts, linguistic models and theoretical networks of Taiwanese know-how systems", the seminar will at the same time reflect on the evolution of Taiwanese know-how systems and the factors of change, as well as the way in which Taiwanese know-how systems interact with the know-how systems of other civilizations. "What are the interactions developed, the means and mediations?", "What are the contexts and factors of evolution?", "What are the innovative concepts and discourses arising in Taiwanese know-how?", "How do Taiwanese know-how systems represent the process and concept of Taiwanization?"

Three areas are at the heart of this seminar's reflection: 1. systems of savoir-faire constructed by social and political movements in Taiwan. 2. systems of savoir-faire in Taiwan's performing arts and literary strategies and creations. 3. systems of know-how on communities of collective consciousness, the lives of ordinary people and religious rituals.

In parallel, we will also invite specialists from other cultural areas to develop a comparative discussion on cases and issues shared in diverse societies.

Furthermore, the seminar also has both a training and a research objective, so it includes, depending on the occasion, talks by an established researcher, or presentations by PhD students or Master 2 students.

The first seminar will start in October. Please register to receive information about the sessions: https://forms.gle/H9oZZRTHU7GtSmuK8
