DU Hospitality, Mediation, Migration (H2M)

Launched in 2019 at Inalco, the University Diploma in Hospitality, Mediation, and Migration (DU H2M) is the first university diploma in France to train students for careers as mediator-interpreters in the field of migration.

Applications for Inalco’s “Hospitality, Mediation, and Migration” university diploma (DU H2M) will be open from May 15 to June 30, 2026. The DU H2M is designed to provide professional training for mediators specializing in contemporary migration.

Today, the role of mediator-interpreter in migration contexts exists in the field: it is most often carried out by volunteer exiles who address the linguistic and cultural needs of those involved in reception efforts.
Since this role requires significant skills, specific technical expertise, and interpersonal competencies, the H2M University Diploma aims to train professional mediators and to have this profession officially recognized as one of the essential pillars of the reception system.

The H2M University Diploma aims to:

  • Develop students’ language skills and cultural knowledge and provide them with both theoretical and practical training.
  • To enable students to master the challenges of welcoming refugees in France by offering them both theoretical and practical training. It sheds light on the historical, legal, and administrative context of reception systems, while incorporating an inclusive and collaborative approach through the analysis of professional practices, workshops, and internships. It thus encourages in-depth reflection on the challenges and specificities of mediation and interpretation in a migration context, adapting them to the unique constraints of migration.
  • Encourage the development of the profession of mediator-interpreter within associations or institutions specializing in supporting migrants.
