Nenets

Discover the language

Nenets is the language of the nomadic Nenets people (Samoyedes) spoken in Russia's far north. Nenets belongs to the Samoyed languages (of the Uralic language subfamily).
Highly challenged by Russian, which remains dominant as a language of communication, the Nenets language is currently taught in Russian schools, and herders are once again using it.

Training courses

As part of the Russian Studies Department's Siberian Studies program, Inalco is offering an introduction to the Nenets language and culture.
