Call for participation
The members of the LIME project steering team at Inalco are currently looking for one or two Master's or PhD students interested in the issues of language practices, sociolinguistics, language diversity and/or language teaching to join this project.
The recruited students will attend a training course in Cologne on November 24 and conduct qualitative surveys at Inalco (remunerated activity). They will pass on the results and, in a second phase, will be trained in the qualitative and quantitative analysis of these data by a researcher from the University of Konstanz, co-sponsor of the LIME project.
Application deadline: October 31, 2025

The LIME project
LIME (Lived Multilingualism within EUniWell) aims to demonstrate and raise awareness of multilingualism experienced within the EUniWell community.
The steering team for this project started from an observation: within this multilingual alliance, its members use several official languages (English, French, Galician, German, Hungarian, Italian, Spanish, Swedish and Ukrainian) for teaching and learning, research, administration, communication and sharing knowledge with society at large.
In addition to these official languages, staff and students also bring a multitude of minority and heritage languages into the university sphere.
To date, there is a lack of empirical data on the different languages used for teaching and learning, those used for research (as opposed to those being researched) and those used by administrators, students and staff. Furthermore, there is currently no overview of the language needs of students and staff.
The LIME project therefore aims to fill these gaps by collecting quantitative and qualitative data from EUniWell universities.
The steering team for this research project will collect data on the language use and needs of students and staff at member universities, and contribute to the development of a language policy for the alliance. The project has two main objectives:
- Map the language use within EUniWell as well as the language needs of EUniWell members using a survey of students and staff.
- Deepen the understanding of the language use and needs of students and staff by conducting interviews at the universities of Cologne, Inalco, Konstanz and Murcia.
This project will be the first step towards developing a language policy for EUniWell, through:
- A new collaborative research network on multilingualism between the universities of Cologne, Inalco, Constance and Murcia.
- Students and staff trained in conducting interviews and analyzing the data collected.
- Empirical quantitative and qualitative data sets on multilingualism experienced within EUniWell.
- A publication in an international journal on language use within EUniWell.
- A report presenting the main findings of the project for dissemination/communication within EUniWell.
- An increased awareness of multilingualism within EUniWell through widespread promotion of the survey and interviews, supported by an event on experienced multilingualism.
