The "Portraits of Researchers in Area Studies" (PEA) is a series of large-format interviews produced by Inalco as part of the Digital Paris Research School of Area Studies (D-PaRSAS) institutional project. Deposited on the MediHal open archive, this series of portraits joins a set of collections on the Language and Cultural Area Studies (LaCAS) platform. These collections aim to build up a living, freely accessible scientific heritage of research on the world's languages, societies and cultures.

Jean-François Huchet is a University Professor at Inalco, attached to the French Institute for East Asian Research - IFRAE (Inalco-Université Paris Cité-CNRS). He is a specialist in Asian economics. He is particularly interested in the Chinese and Indian economies from a comparative perspective. His areas of research also include China's environmental crisis and Chinese capitalism.

He is the author of La Crise environnementale en Chine. Évolutions et limites des politiques publiques (Presses de Sciences Po, 2016).

He was deputy director of the GIS (Groupement d'Intérêt Scientifique) Réseau Asie of the CNRS from 2013 to 2017, associate member of the Centre d'études sur la Chine moderne et contemporaine (CECMC). He edited the journal Perspectives chinoises from 2006 to 2011. He was vice-president of the scientific council at Inalco.

Since 2019, he has been president of Inalco.
