Jean-David Levitte, guest of Multipolaire

A former student of Inalco, where he studied Chinese and Malay-Indonesian, Jean-David Levitte has built a career at the highest level of French diplomacy, at the crossroads of fieldwork, negotiation and strategic decision-making. French Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York (2000-2002), then French Ambassador to the United States (2002-2007), he has been at the heart of major contemporary international crises. He has also been diplomatic advisor and Sherpa to two Presidents of the Republic. Today, he is President of the Académie des sciences morales et politiques.

In this episode, he offers a long-term reading of international relations: changing balances of power, the US/China rivalry, the affirmation of a multipolar world, the weakening of multilateralism and Europe's room for maneuver. He also looks back at the role of international law, alliances and diplomatic negotiation in dealing with global crises and preserving a rules-based international order.
