Thailand and Inalco

For almost 150 years, Siamese or Thai has been taught at Inalco. This language, spoken by over 65 million people, is the official language of the Kingdom of Thailand. Several of our institute's recent projects bear witness to the deep-rooted relationship with this Southeast Asian country:

  • Award of an honorary doctorate to Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn on October 3, 2000
  • International colloquium commemorating the "160th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and France"in 2017, whose opening speech was given by Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana
  • Colloque "Carrefours interculturels : connection between language, culture and education" organized by CERLOM in collaboration with the Thai Association of Teachers of French and Thammasat University in November 2018, chaired by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn

Mobility scholarships for students of Thai at Inalco

The signing of this agreement between the Royal Thai Embassy and the Inalco Foundation is a continuation of these cooperative ventures and further strengthens relations between Inalco and the Kingdom of Thailand. Its aim is to promote the mobility of students in Siamese through the award of excellence scholarships that will enable them to spend a semester immersed in Thailand over the 2022-2023 academic year.

On this occasion, H.E.M Tana Weskosith (Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Thailand in France), who fully supports academic and student exchanges between our countries, did us the honor of receiving us at the embassy.

Promoting immersion for Inalco students in the countries whose language they are learning is a priority for the Foundation. Indeed, scholarships have already been awarded for students from the Persian world or from the Indian world.

The Foundation is honored to have entered into this partnership with the Royal Thai Embassy and would like to extend its warmest thanks to H.E.M Tana Weskosith and the teams at the Royal Thai Embassy in France.
