Presentation

There is an overview of the history of the Komis and their various ethnic groups, reflections on language as an identitiary marker, on the first Komi poet, Ivan Kuratov, and the opera he inspired, and finally on the religious practices of the Komis today. A text by a 19th-century Russian author and a translation of a text by the recently deceased Vladimir Timin complete the picture.
