The distance learning diploma in Islamology celebrates its 5th anniversary: assessment and prospects
As part of the 5-year anniversary of the Inalco diploma, and with the support of the ReligiS program, the teaching team is organizing a day of exchange around training and research in Islamology, on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at Inalco. Students (past, present and future) will meet with teachers and digital pedagogy engineers in participatory workshops that they will co-host. This review will also be an opportunity to rethink the diploma and orient it towards the future.
Following the work, a restitution of the results is planned at a public round table, moderated by Francesco Chiabotti and Enki Baptiste (Inalco).

The public round table will focus on online training courses on Islam, in partnership with a range of national projects (Parcours Arkoun, diplôme coranologie UNISTRA, DIU Islamologie). After taking stock of the first few years, the speakers will address and discuss the future prospects for our courses, which continue to evolve to meet strong public demand in our societies and respond to contemporary challenges. How should we think about distance learning in the age of artificial intelligence? What place does academic knowledge of Islam occupy in a training and career path? What are the priority objectives for distance learning on Islam? How can academia and civil society interact in the digital age? This round-table will also bring together a group of students who will present their backgrounds and their thoughts on digital learning of Muslim religious fact.
