The last role of Wassyl Slipak
From the Paris Opera to the Ukrainian front, the unique trajectory of an opera singer turned national hero.
His soldier's name was Myth, for Mephistopheles. When Wassyl Slipak, a Ukrainian opera singer who had made his entire career in France, died on the front line of the Donbass war in 2016, Ukraine made him a hero.
Elisa Mignot sets out on the man's trail to try to understand how his personal trajectory came to collide with the history of his country. Her investigation, conducted during the Great War of 2022, sheds light on the Ukraine of today, questioning its need for heroes and the commitment of an entire people.
