Presentation by Agnès Ohanian, doctoral student in anthropology - Migrinter, Université de Poitiers / Institut Convergences Migrations (ICM) / IRIS, EHESS.

Agnès Ohanian is a doctoral student in anthropology at the Migrinter laboratory (University of Poitiers). Based on long-term ethnographic surveys in Armenia, her research questions Armenian migrations in their diversity, singularity and historical depth.

This doctoral research explores the seasonal labor migrations of Armenian men to Russia, through the eyes of families remaining in Armenia. Focusing on the reverse side of migration, it questions the relationships between family structures and migratory practices. Based on extensive ethnographic surveys carried out in Armenia, and analyzed using a multiscalar approach and addressing several temporalities, this study attempts to inscribe these (im)mobilities in the complex history of relations between Russia and Armenia, and more broadly in that of Armenian family migration trajectories.
