Itinéraire(s) n°10 - February 2021 - Contents
Turkic languages
In this tenth issue of Itinéraire(s), you'll find a feature on Turkish languages, which have spread over a vast area of Asia, from the Balkans to western China, via Iran and Afghanistan, and which some linguists (at least those lulled by the illusions of early-Republican romanticism) like to repeat that speakers of Turkish (i.i. e. the Turkic languages, sometimes spelled türk, often very different from Turkish) number between 150 and 180 million! This dossier does not claim to cover the entire Turkic world, and is missing major pieces of the Turkic puzzle, including the Kazakh, Kyrgyz and Tatar languages.
Our exceptional researchers, PhD students and collaborators present this ensemble in 14 rich texts.
We hope you enjoy reading this Itinéraire(s) n°10.

International relations
This semester once again suffered the consequences of the circulation of Covid-19 in France and particularly in the Paris region. Faced with the uncertainty linked to the evolution of the pandemic, Inalco was forced, with great regret, to suspend incoming mobility for its international students, maintaining however a 100% online offering of its French as a Foreign Language program followed by many students around the world.
Waiting for our school to be able to welcome students from all over the world once again and send its own students to all 5 continents, several important partnerships were renewed, in particular with Jamia Millia Islamia University in New Delhi, Bar-Ilan University in Tel Aviv and Sophia University in Tokyo.
Our school also took part in virtual fairs organized by Campus France in Singapore and Vietnam. On this occasion, Mariana Losada, our Asia-Pacific representative based in Singapore, promoted Inalco's programs and answered questions from high school and university students from many Southeast Asian countries attending these online fairs.
Another important event marked the start of 2021: the UK's exit from the European Union and the decision by the British authorities to leave the Erasmus+ program. Inalco has taken two steps:
- on the one hand, we have applied to the European agency to extend our current Erasmus agreement, enabling us to maintain our Erasmus exchanges with the UK until May 2022.
- on the other, we will be negotiating the signing of bilateral agreements with our British partners in order to continue not only student and staff exchanges, but also research cooperation with this important country on the international scientific landscape. Among other things, our institution wishes to maintain and develop its partnerships with the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS, London), the School of Slavonic and Eastern European Studies (SSEES, UCL, London), University College London and the Oxford School of Global and Area Studies (OGSA) at Oxford University.
