As part of its Erasmus+ initiatives, Inalco has been awarded a Jean Monnet grant for the period 2025-2028 for its project entitled "EU-LACE" (Inalco's Language and Area Studies Curricula, Enhanced with EU Perspectives). This grant finances two semester courses in the International Relations department, as well as an annual summer school, supported by the department, to expand the catalog of courses devoted to the politics of the European Union.

This semester marks the launch of the first course session of the EU-LACE project, coordinated by the International Relations stream and the Direction Europe et International. As of now, two semester-long courses are offered to students, one within the International Relations pathway of the Licence LLCER, the other within the Master Relations internationales. These courses are taught by Frédéric Allemand, lecturer-researcher in EU law at the University of Luxembourg and co-director of the Jean Monnet Robert Schuman Initiative center of excellence. They enable students to deepen their knowledge of the history of European construction as well as its contemporary institutional issues.

In June, a hybrid summer school devoted to the European Union's external actions will complement these courses. It will bring together Inalco students as well as French, European (from universities in the EUniWell alliance) and extra-European participants, some ten universities in all, and will offer a framework for learning and reflection on the EU's external action.

By combining studies in languages, regional areas and international relations, and integrating an in-depth analysis of the European Union's institutions, internal policies and external relations, this Jean Monnet module enables students to benefit from dual expertise. They are thus able to articulate regional knowledge and an understanding of the European framework.
