Thematic call for projects - Migrations and otherness
This call concerns scientific projects that fall within the themes of INALCO's research units. These projects must be scientifically innovative in terms of the national and international state of the art. They must involve one or two INALCO research units and a USPC partner (Paris III, Paris VII, Paris XIII, Paris V, Sc. Po., EHESP, IPGP). An international partner is welcome. All disciplines are welcome.
Projects of an exploratory nature, aiming to establish the validity of a new approach complementary to those already existing or developed in the research units and likely to be the subject of subsequent contractual funding applications (ANR, EPST, Europe, ...) will be particularly appreciated.
The project coordinator is a teacher-researcher, member of an INALCO research unit.

- A disappearing Malagasy oral heritage.
Due to the very conditions of their production, Malagasy burial songs remain difficult to access. The aim of this project is, on the one hand, to offer social recognition and academic status to this rich heritage. On the other hand, it will make it possible to combine reflections on the Malagasy language and its literature, while at the same time enabling the latter's heritage and didactization.
The interdisciplinary fieldwork approach will be based on an interdisciplinary approach.
The interdisciplinary field approach (anthropological, sociolinguistic) will make use of digital technologies. During the summer of 2016, an initial corpus of several hours of audiovisual recordings was compiled.

- MANTAL - Processing and resources for Mandinka languagess.
The MANTAL project aims to provide classic Automatic Language Processing (ALP) treatments to help enrich the Bambara Reference Corpus (a Mandinka language from West Africa), which has been built up for several years at LLACAN.
.
This corpus, accessible online at this address, gives researchers, students and, more broadly, anyone interested in Bambara, the opportunity to consult the corpus by queries relating to linguistic annotations (words, lemmas, parts of speech, glosses, etc.).
Inalco's ERTIM team is contributing its multilingual NLP expertise to help with automatic lexical disambiguation in order to determine, for each word and in context:
- its morpho-syntactic category,
- its tonalization,
- its lemma and gloss.
As a result of exchanges, this work has given rise to incipient collaborations with colleagues working on Bambara or on similar issues (LIG, Goethe Institut Frankfurt).
This project has also contributed to feeding and making available a similar new corpus for maninka, the Reference Maninka Corpus, published in April 2016 and continually fed since. It is planned to port the NLP processing implemented for Bambara to this new corpus, in order to speed up its annotation.
