Araki Nobuyoshi is now a key figure in Japanese and international photography. The Guimet Museum is dedicating an exhibition to him until 12 January 2026: ‘POLARAKI - A Thousand Polaroids by Araki Nobuyoshi’.

To mark the occasion, a meeting has been organised with Michaël Lucken, professor at Inalco and historian of art and photography in Japan, for a thematic exploration of the photographer's work.

He is the author of L'art du Japon au vingtième siècle Pensée, formes, résistances (Hermann, 2001) and Les Fleurs artificielles: Creation, Imitation and the Logic of Domination (Presses de l'Inalco, 2016).

This second book devotes a chapter to the photographer's work, which can be consulted free of charge on OpenEdition: “Sentimental Journey – Araki Nobuyoshi's Winter Journey or the Ebb of Bones”.
