Diplomas in civilization

Inalco's Diplôme de Civilisation (DC) is designed for people wishing to acquire in-depth knowledge of the civilization of a particular country or geographical area, and to have this knowledge recognized by a university degree, without having to commit to learning a language of that region. Courses are taught in French, and do not presuppose foreign language skills.

South Asian and Himalayan Civilization Diploma

The South Asian and Himalayan Civilization Diploma is a one-year course. It leads to the award of a diploma in civilization. This course is designed primarily for people who are not seeking a national diploma. It provides a solid grounding in the countries of South Asia and their cultures.

Diploma in Medieval European Civilization

Inalco's diploma in Medieval European Civilization, set up at the start of the 2019 academic year, is aimed at people wishing to acquire in-depth knowledge of the civilization of Middle Europe (a geographical area stretching from the Baltic to the Aegean Sea and between the Germanic and Russian worlds) and have this knowledge recognized by a university degree, without having to commit to learning a language from this region.

This course is designed to complement a main course of study or a professional activity. The diploma is normally obtained in one year, but course validation can be spread over several years if required.

Getting the diploma requires validation of ten courses (5 courses per semester, i.e. 7.5 h of classes per week) freely chosen from one of the 6 courses on offer. A student who has already obtained the diploma in a given pathway has the option of re-enrolling by choosing a different pathway.

Courses are taught in French and do not presuppose foreign language skills.

Diploma in Civilization Islamology levels 1 and 2 - distance learning

The aim is to train a wide audience in Islamic religious fact. The aim is to acquire the tools to apprehend and understand the foundations of Islam as a religion, and to analyze the diversity of its manifestations in contemporary societies.
