Master’s in Information Technology – Literary Translation

Course overview

The programme seeks to strike a balance between, on the one hand, theoretical and methodological seminars, which aim to encourage students to reflect on the very essence of translation: the poetics of the text (the text itself, its rhythm, its structure, and its place within a culture and society); and, on the other hand, more practical workshops and seminars, largely delivered by industry professionals (publishers, translators, copy editors, and a lawyer specialising in copyright law).

This balance is reflected in the assessment requirements for the M2: either through a research dissertation or an internship at a publishing house, accompanied by a annotated translation.

Admission

The programme is open to applicants who hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification and have an excellent command of French (TCF level C1), as well as an Eastern language taught at INALCO.

Specific entry route for students wishing to study Japanese whose mother tongue is not Japanese: they are required to enrol on the LLCER Master’s in Japanese Studies in the first year (M1) and then join the TL Master’s programme in the second year (M2). 

Prerequisites : a previous academic background including literary studies, and a genuine commitment to literary studies.

This programme aims to train professionals in the field of writing and is therefore aimed at candidates with undeniable writing skills as well as excellent general knowledge.

Compulsory module on plagiarism

A training and awareness-raising module on the issue of plagiarism is organised each year by BULAC. This two-hour course is compulsory for all first-year Master’s students. For your information, the dates of all student courses are listed on the BULAC website.
