Bichig Mongolian", a thousand-year-old script in survival mode

Mongol bichig", or "Mongolian script", is one of the two scripts currently used in the Republic of Mongolia. Its use declined throughout the 20th century, with the imposition of the Cyrillic alphabet under Soviet influence in the 1940s, so that today only a minority of the population master it. In recent years, however, there has been a revitalization of Bichig Mongolian, which could regain its status as Mongolia's official script in the next few years.
