MOOCs for teaching and learning Additional Language (AL) are among the MOOCs that are attracting large numbers of learners in France. Open to all, they are now part of the landscape of open educational resources for lifelong learning in the field of foreign language teaching and learning. Whatever the initial aims of the system designers, these LMOOCs (Language Learning MOOCs) open the door to the practice of reception, production and interaction skills (verbal and non-verbal) in the target language in real communication acts (Barcena et al., 2014; Hoppe, 2019), notably via discussion forums.

The Inalco Chinese Studies Department's eTandem programs

Tandem learning is learning between two people belonging to two different mother-tongue communities, who collaborate with the aim of learning each other's mother tongue and discovering their respective cultures (Lewis and Stickler, 2007/2009). In order to stimulate students' regular speaking practice, the Chinese Studies Department has introduced eTandem schemes offering distance meetings between students from Inalco and Chinese universities in China.

This article is a synthesis and reflection on what some research in the field of language teaching and learning has revealed. In particular, it looks at ways of moving beyond traditional notions of language creativity and creative pedagogy, in order to formulate other ways of imagining creativity in language learning. Creativity is especially important when it comes to encouraging learners to use the full range of their semiotic and social resources when communicating with others and producing discourse.

The transmission or non-transmission of languages within the family space represents a captivating subject of research, and brings to the fore the case of migrant families in particular. The creation of a plurilingual environment within the family is of particular interest to many fields of research, such as sociolinguistics and language didactics. Nowadays, it seems more than necessary to take into consideration the complex aspect of language transmission, through the family space and its varied situations. Ultimately, do we simply choose whether or not to transmit a language? And why do we or don't we?
