Heir to a long literary tradition, free prose, or sanwen, has become one of the four major genres of Chinese literature in modern times, alongside poetry, the novel and drama. Practiced from time immemorial by a multitude of writers, it constitutes a vast and highly complex field, and remains a genre little translated or studied abroad. This book is intended as an introduction to some of the issues surrounding modern sanwen.

Claire Caniaux won the first scientific prize of the Institut des hautes études de défense nationale (IHEDN) for her Master 2 research dissertation (M2 LLCER Turc 2021-2022) at Inalco, awarded by Prefect Denis Conus, Deputy Director of the IHEDN, at a ceremony on May 16 in the presence of Guillaume Lasconjarias, Director of Studies and Research at the IHEDN.

The fourth edition of the Inalco Multilingual Short Story Competition is launched! French-speaking students from all over the world are invited to submit their short stories online on the theme of "Animal Languages" until March 18, 2024. The Multilingual Short Story Competition is a project supported by Inalco's Student Success Department, with the collaboration of Aix-Marseille University's InCIAM and the partnership of École Estienne. It is open to all French-speaking students and rewards unpublished multilingual short stories and a work of multilingual digital literature.
