MOOCs for teaching and learning Additional Language (AL) are among the MOOCs that are attracting large numbers of learners in France. Open to all, they are now part of the landscape of open educational resources for lifelong learning in the field of foreign language teaching and learning. Whatever the initial aims of the system designers, these LMOOCs (Language Learning MOOCs) open the door to the practice of reception, production and interaction skills (verbal and non-verbal) in the target language in real communication acts (Barcena et al., 2014; Hoppe, 2019), notably via discussion forums.

Tandem learning is learning between two people belonging to two different mother-tongue communities, who collaborate with the aim of learning each other's mother tongue and discovering their respective cultures (Lewis and Stickler, 2007/2009).
